After their loss to Modena in the last matchday, Hellas Verona is looking to bounce back on Matchday 7 of Serie B. The Scaligeri host Catanzaro at Bentegodi Stadium in the early match on Friday, October 16, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m., in a crucial game to get back on track and regain consistency.
Marco Baroni’s team has alternated between positive results and setbacks so far this season. Verona is just outside the playoff zone but needs to make up ground on the top two spots, which guarantee direct promotion to Serie A. To stay in contention at the top of the standings, the Gialloblù need a win in front of their home crowd.
The situation is more complicated for Giorgio Gorgone’s Catanzaro, which has lost five of its first six league games and sits in second-to-last place in the standings. The away match at Bentegodi therefore represents an important opportunity to try to turn things around and snap their losing streak.
Baroni must contend with numerous absences. In addition to the suspended Edmundsson and the long-term absentees Korac and Compagnon, Bradaric, Serdar, Suslov, and Toniolo will also be unavailable. Bega is also out for personal reasons. In goal, it’s a toss-up between Leali and Perilli, while in defense, Slotsager is expected to partner Dawidowicz in the center, with Zappa and De Battisti on the flanks. Frese could start on the bench. In midfield, Lella and Bernede are vying for a spot, with Iannoni and Le Borgne in the running to round out the lineup. Up front, Mosquera looks set to start, while Mulattieri, Sarr, and Livramento are competing for the other two spots.
Gorgone, on the other hand, is considering some changes, especially in the attacking line. Pecorino is expected to partner with Iemmello, with Pafundi playing behind them. In midfield, Tchaouna is the favorite to play alongside Petriccione, while Dorval and D’Alessandro are expected to operate on the wings. In defense, Ruggero, Antonini, and Imperiale will line up in front of goalkeeper Pigliacelli.
