Estadio Riazor is gearing up to host the match between Deportivo La Coruña and Levante, an early fixture of La Liga’s ninth matchday. Both teams come into the match needing a win, albeit with different goals: the Galicians are looking to bounce back after a difficult stretch to stay near the top of the standings, while the Valencians are seeking valuable points to move away from the relegation zone.
Deportivo La Coruña started the season with encouraging results following its return to Spain’s top flight. The team coached by Antonio Hidalgo earned 10 points in the first eight matchdays, climbing to eighth place in the standings. After a positive start, with five consecutive positive results, the Blanquiazules have, however, hit a slump, going four games without a win. The latest disappointment came on the road against Real Sociedad, where Deportivo was defeated 3-2. In front of their home crowd, the Galician team is looking to get back on the winning track and snap their losing streak, drawing on the support of the Riazor fans.
Levante arrives in Galicia in a more precarious situation. The team led by Luís Castro sits in 17th place with 6 points from its first seven matches. Their only win of the season came in late August, a convincing 5-2 victory over Real Betis. In the four matches since, the Granotas have recorded two draws and suffered two losses. The biggest cause for concern is their defensive performance: having conceded 15 goals, Levante has shown vulnerabilities that they’ll need to address if they’re to emerge unscathed from this away match. The match against Deportivo represents an important opportunity to turn things around and earn crucial points in the fight for survival.
