Catanzaro is set to face Verona in Friday’s early match, a game that could have implications for Giorgio Gorgone’s future. Luca D’Angelo, now considered the front-runner, William Viali, and Andrea Sottil are the names that could come back into the picture for Catanzaro’s head coaching position should the club decide to part ways with the Roman coach. These three coaches are well-acquainted with Serie B and would represent viable alternatives to try to turn the Giallorossi’s season around at a particularly critical juncture.

For now, however, the Calabrian club’s management has chosen to stick with Gorgone. After a day of reflection and internal discussions, the club decided to give the coach another chance, despite the discontent of a significant portion of the fan base. Many supporters would have preferred an immediate change in leadership, favoring a coach with more experience in the league to try to turn things around.

Before confirming Gorgone, sporting director Polito had explored other options. The top target was reportedly Michele Mignani, with whom he had previously worked at Bari, coming close to promotion to Serie A. However, the coach reportedly turned down the offer. Davide Ballardini also turned down the offer; in the meantime, he had become a candidate for the head coaching position at the Turkish club Gençlerbirliği.

These rejections, combined with the particularly tight schedule, reportedly prompted Catanzaro to postpone any decision.
