Jonathan David seems like a different player in Spain: after a lackluster season with Juventus and in Serie A, the Canadian forward has returned to form at Atlético Madrid, so much so that he has already convinced the Colchoneros’ management, which is planning to sign him on a permanent basis.

Having arrived from Juventus this summer, David immediately fit into Diego Simeone’s system and has been a decisive force in the league. The Argentine coach has openly praised him (“He has something we didn’t have before”) and has given the green light to exercise the option to buy him outright.

Juventus had agreed with the Madrid club on a fee of 25 million euros in the event of a permanent transfer—an affordable figure for Atlético, which is ready to exercise the purchase option. David has played four La Liga matches so far, scoring three goals and recording two assists.

In Turin, David finished his final season with Juventus with eight goals in 36 Serie A appearances—numbers lower than those from his years in France, where he never scored fewer than thirteen goals. David himself has spoken about the intense pressure he felt at Juventus, whereas in Spain—with fewer expectations focused solely on him—he has regained his confidence and consistency.
