Sofia Goggia, heartfelt words after returning to the slopes: “I’m still taking medication”

Sofia Goggia is back on her skis after more than a month off. The champion from Bergamo was able to test herself again on the Stelvio Glacier this week, after being forced to interrupt her training in Patagonia due to two viral infections that kept her off the slopes.
Her return to the slopes marks an important first step in the Italian skier’s recovery process; she has decided to skip the giant slalom in Sölden, scheduled for October 24 and serving as the first event of the new World Cup season. Goggia will now continue her training in Copper Mountain, in the United States, with the goal of returning to competition on November 28 in Killington.
The skier herself described the emotions of her return to the snow, sharing a message full of enthusiasm and gratitude on social media: “I put my skis back on, and I felt so happy,” Goggia wrote on Instagram. “It was a wonderful feeling to get back to doing what I love most. I sincerely thank everyone who has helped me during this time. I’ll still need to take some medication, but I’m on the right track.”
Accompanying the Italian skier’s words was the song “Viva la vita,” performed by Ornella Vanoni and Francesco Gabbani. The post garnered nearly 10,000 comments, likes, and words of encouragement from fans in just a few hours—all delighted to see the champion back on her skis after a difficult few weeks.
