Claudio Marchisio praises the new Kings League: “The level is high”

Kings League

Claudio Marchisio, Head of Competition for the Kings League, spoke on the sidelines of the first day of the new season. “We already have established players and rising stars who’ve been competing here for a few years now. You can tell the level is high just by looking at the goals being scored.”

The former Juventus midfielder also recalled the initial interest shown by several professional players—including himself—in participating directly in the tournament. “The Kings League originated in Spain and then expanded its leagues around the world. At first, there was a lot of interest from former players like me who wanted to try their hand at this league. However, we realized that the level of competition, the athleticism, the physicality, and above all, our age wouldn’t allow us to play,” he concluded with a laugh.

To continue growing, according to Marchisio, it might be necessary to strengthen the ties with professional soccer. “I believe that in recent years we’ve almost reached the peak, at least from a sporting standpoint. To raise the level even further, we’d need to find a formula that involves professional clubs and allows us to bring in young players from higher and more prestigious divisions.”

“It would be interesting to see if any sporting director—especially in the professional leagues—would be willing to come and scout some of the young players who have ended up here because they weren’t able to make it through the traditional soccer system. Sometimes these young players fail to stand out not only because of their athletic ability, but also because of the environment they find themselves in.”
