Milan continues to work on identifying the right candidate to lead the club’s sports department, and among the top contenders is Markus Krösche, a German executive (with a background as a player and coach) who has distinguished himself in recent years for his work in the Bundesliga, particularly at Eintracht Frankfurt, and who could join the Rossoneri in Milan as early as the coming days, beginning his work with owner Gerry Cardinale, president Paolo Scaroni, and head coach Ruben Amorim.

Born in Hanover on September 17, 1980, Krösche has had a long career in the world of soccer. As a player, he spent most of his career with Paderborn, where he became a true icon. A defensive midfielder, he made over 350 appearances for the German club, helping it achieve its historic promotion to the Bundesliga before retiring in 2014.

After hanging up his cleats, Krösche quickly embarked on a career in management. After a brief stint as a youth coach at Paderborn and a period as an assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen on Roger Schmidt’s staff, he returned to his longtime club as head of sports operations. His name began to circulate more widely in European soccer thanks to the excellent results achieved during that period: the club rose from the third division to the Bundesliga in just a few years.

In 2019, he was recruited by Leipzig, where he served as sporting director. During his time at the Red Bull-affiliated club, he helped build a competitive roster both in Germany and in Europe, playing a key role in transfers involving players such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Josko Gvardiol, Mohamed Simakan, and Benjamin Henrichs.

His definitive breakthrough, however, came at Eintracht Frankfurt. In the summer of 2021, he was appointed head of the club’s sports department, and since then he has orchestrated several transfer deals that have allowed the club to remain competitive both in the Bundesliga and in European competitions. His philosophy is based on developing young talent, financial sustainability, and the ability to generate capital gains without compromising the team’s performance.

It is precisely these qualities that are reportedly winning over AC Milan. The Rossoneri management has long been searching for a figure with international experience and expertise in both squad building and the club’s business operations. Krösche, who also earned a degree in business administration during his career, fits the profile considered ideal by the club based on Via Aldo Rossi.
