Tragedy in the world of bodybuilding: Mateusz Chmura, a 33-year-old bodybuilder who was competing in the PCA British Finals—the national finals of the Physical Culture Association—at the Telford International Centre in England, has died. The man collapsed on stage while performing; he was immediately attended to by the medical team and rushed to the hospital, but he died shortly thereafter.

The PCA organizers announced the news in an official statement. Mateusz Chmura had been married for just two months. “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mateusz Chmura, 33, of Wakefield. On Sunday, October 18, at the Telford International Centre, Mateusz was competing in the ‘Classic Bodybuilding Medium’ category during the PCA British Finals.”

“We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him. During his competition, Mateusz became ill and collapsed on stage. He was treated on site by paramedics, the local ambulance crew, and the Midlands Air Ambulance team, and was then transported to the hospital.”

“Unfortunately, despite all efforts to save him, he later passed away at the hospital. The event was suspended during the rescue operations. Once Mateusz had been transported to the hospital—and before news of his death spread—we held a meeting with the athletes, after which the decision was made to resume the event.”

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the medical staff on site, the first responders in the crowd who stepped in to help, the Midlands Air Ambulance, and the hospital team for everything they did for Mateusz. Thanks also go to everyone else who offered their support: your dedication will not be forgotten. We are also grateful to the staff at the Telford International Centre, our volunteers, and the competing athletes for the mutual support they have shown. We ask that the privacy of his loved ones be respected during this extremely difficult time.”
