Sebastiano Esposito cuts to the chase on the transfer market: “I’m where I want to be”

Sebastiano Esposito tries to convey a sense of calm and optimism and isn’t thinking about the transfer market at all. In an interview with Sassuolo Channel, the 24-year-old forward confirmed that he is fully satisfied with his experience in Emilia and considers the Neroverdi the ideal environment to take his game to the next level. “Right now, I’m exactly where I want to be; I’ve always liked this club. It’s the perfect place to grow, to establish myself in Serie A, and to earn a spot on the national team.” Esposito has already managed to turn his ambition of wearing the Azzurri jersey into reality, quickly achieving one of the most important goals of his career.
His confidence in his own abilities goes hand in hand with the awareness that Sassuolo needs to find more consistency. Esposito doesn’t hide the difficulties that have emerged in recent weeks, but he believes the team’s potential is greater than what the most recent results suggest. “We’ve been a bit up and down, a bit inconsistent. We have enormous potential,” the player observes, identifying consistent performance as one of the key areas to work on. He also has words of praise for Alberto Aquilani, a coach with whom he seems to have established a positive rapport, both professionally and personally. Esposito describes him as “a genuine, straightforward, and very likable person,” thus highlighting the qualities of a coach in whom he places great trust for the rest of the season.
The interview also offers an opportunity to look back on a career that, despite his young age, has already seen changes, difficulties, and significant milestones. After his time at Cagliari came to an end and a summer transfer window spent searching for a new home, Esposito identified Sassuolo as the destination best suited to his ambitions. However, the pressure stemming from expectations and the need to prove himself at the highest level does not seem to be a problem. “I’m not weighed down by the important moment I’m experiencing,” the forward assures us, demonstrating a maturity honed in part by the obstacles he’s encountered along the way. In the past, in fact, his temperament and certain behaviors had contributed to creating an image around him that wasn’t always positive. It’s a label he acknowledges today without seeking excuses: “In Italy, I had the label of a ‘bad boy,’ the troublemaker who didn’t know how to behave. They were even right about some things.”
It was precisely the desire to change his perspective and grow away from the pressures of Italian soccer that contributed to his decision to try his luck abroad. His stints with Basel and Anderlecht proved to be important milestones on a journey that allowed him to experience different environments, confront new realities, and gain greater awareness of his own abilities. These experiences, which he now considers an integral part of his development, enable him to approach the responsibilities of Serie A with a different mindset. Esposito doesn’t dismiss the mistakes he’s made, but recognizes them as steps in a process of personal and professional growth that is still ongoing. Now his focus is on Sassuolo, on the need to regain consistency, and on his determination to prove on the field that he can be a consistent key player in Italy’s top league.
