Cardiac arrest following the violent collision: These are agonizing hours for Jesus de Miguel

Moments of sheer terror shook the match between Tenerife and Andorra, with the sporting aspect suddenly taking a back seat to what happened in stoppage time. Just moments before the final whistle, the “Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez” stadium was the scene of an incident that left players, officials, and fans speechless: Jesús de Miguel, a player for the home team, collided violently with Andorra’s goalkeeper Owono, collapsing to the ground in full view of everyone.
Teammates and opponents immediately called for medical assistance, while the referee sent off Owono. At that moment, however, soccer no longer mattered: the field was the scene of agonizing minutes, with medical staff responding promptly to aid Jesús de Miguel, tending to him at length under the worried gaze of everyone present. Even Owono himself, after leaving the field due to the disciplinary action, turned back to see what was happening.
After more than five minutes of on-field treatment and the referee’s decision to call off the match (with the score at 2-2), the player was transported to the nearest hospital: according to reports in ‘Marca,’ Jesús de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the extremely hard collision. The immediate intervention of the first responders proved crucial, as they managed to restore his heartbeat through CPR.
The player is currently at the ‘Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria’ University Hospital in Tenerife, where he has been admitted to the intensive care unit. The club reported that his condition is stable, though still extremely critical. In the hours that followed, teammates, members of the coaching staff, and club officials arrived at the hospital to be with the player and his family.
