A terrible tragedy has struck Spanish soccer: Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 following a horrific collision on the field during the match against FC Andorra.

His own club made the heartbreaking announcement on social media: “Overwhelmed with grief, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe what has happened, CD Tenerife announces the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda, which occurred on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. There are no words of comfort; nothing can alleviate this profound sense of sadness. We stand in solidarity with his family, his loved ones, and the entire CD Tenerife community, which today mourns this cruel outcome.”

“The family of Jesús de Miguel expresses its gratitude for the numerous expressions of sympathy received and asks, from the bottom of their hearts, for the utmost respect for their privacy during these terrible moments.”

On social media, FC Andorra posted this message of condolence: “With broken hearts and deep sorrow, we wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and CD Tenerife. Rest in peace.”

The incident occurred on Monday during stoppage time of the match between Tenerife and Andorra, just moments before the final whistle, at the ‘Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez’ Stadium. De Miguel collided violently with the visiting goalkeeper, Jesus Owono, and collapsed to the ground as players, officials, and fans looked on. The referee sent off Owono, who, after leaving the field, turned back to check on his opponent’s condition.

On the field, medical staff responded promptly and attended to the player for over five minutes amid moments of great distress. Immediately afterward, the referee called off the match, which was tied 2-2. The player suffered a cardiac arrest following the extremely hard collision, and the immediate intervention of the emergency responders proved crucial; through resuscitation efforts, they managed to restore his heartbeat.

De Miguel was transported to the “Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria” University Hospital in Tenerife, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Initially, the club reported that his condition was stable, albeit extremely critical, and teammates, coaching staff, and club officials had arrived at the hospital to be close to the player and his family. In recent hours, however, Tenerife issued a brief statement indicating that the forward’s neurological condition had worsened.
