Mick Schumacher, Uncle Ralf vents: ‘Nonsense’
German driver without team in F1 after farewell to Haas
Ralf Schumacher has not digested the non-confirmation of his nephew Mick at Haas, and he made this clear in an interview with Formel1. “It was a decision that made little sense, even comparing Mick to the other rookies and calculating Mick’s completely useless first year. When you see the newcomers, Tsunoda, Zhou and indeed Mick, it’s pretty clear that Mick is one of the best, if not the best among this trio.”
“Sometimes you just had to embrace him. Of course criticism is allowed, but often it was too harsh. It’s a shame, because in those circumstances a driver cannot give his best. However, the team is in the hands of Haas and Steiner, and it is right for them to decide what they think is best for them.”
Ralf Schumacher remains hopeful about an F1 future for his grandson: “In 2021 there were two rookies with a below-average car. So the first year was difficult. Now he suddenly had Magnussen in front and was able to learn a lot. And the learning curve was very fast and that’s the only thing that matters in a junior driver.”
