F1, Ferrari: Frederic Vasseur doesn’t go for it and goes down flat
All the disappointment of Frederic Vasseur
The disappointing outcome of the Australian Grand Prix forces the entire Ferrari environment to question the present and future of a Formula 1 season that sees, in the overall standings, Carlos Sainz already 49 points behind Max Verstappen (who has 69 after three races) and Charles Leclerc even still stuck on 6 points, the same as Nico Hulkenberg.
Frederic Vasseur, to ‘Sky Sport,’ was a spokesman for all the team’s discontent with the race direction as well: “There was plenty of time to discuss possible penalties. A different position had been taken with Alonso,” said the Cavallino team principal, comparing the decision taken in Australia against Sainz and what happened with the Aston Martin driver in Saudi Arabia.
“Some will say it was Carlos’ fault but we at Ferrari see it as a racing incident,” Vasseur added. “The situation is similar to others judged without penalty for any of the parties involved. So it is frustrating, but the team will come out of this difficult period stronger. Leclerc? He too is frustrated with his accident, the situation is similar to the Carlos-Fernando contact.”
