Models picketing in Madrid: Andre Agassi attacks
The decision by the organizers of the Madrid Masters 1000 tournament to give the role of ball boy to models between the ages of 18 and 29 instead of the usual teenagers has stirred the tennis world into discussion in recent days.
The organizers’ choice, which in truth traces that of past years (the tradition began in 2004, the idea was Ion Tiriac’s), was commented as follows by Andre Agassi, who has played in the Madrid tournament in the past: “It was difficult to say the least to concentrate on the ball when I was playing… But I suppose I had an advantage, I was used to playing with my wife.”
“It’s important for our sport to clearly understand what the product is … but I’m not entirely convinced that this is part of our product,” the American said in an interview with The Sun.
