Red Bul, Christian Horner admits problem
Christian Horner’s words
Christian Horner to RacingNews365 returned to talk about the changes that will affect Formula 1 and in particular the new Red Bull (after the agreement with Ford). “The team’s workforce will be about 450 to 475 people. Now we have a cost constraint on power units from 2026. So unlike chassis, where we were more in the dark, we were able to shape the business to the cap. Initially we were supposed to have an agreement with Honda to build their engines under license, but the deeper we go into this, the more impossible it would have been.”
“In the end, fortunately, because of the good relationship we have with Honda, we contracted their services until the end of 2025, focusing on the new setup for 2026. Initially it was going to be a four-cylinder engine and a very different architecture, so it was going to be a blank sheet for everyone. Instead, we ended up with a current engine without the MGU-H and with a larger battery. That gives the traditional engine makers a significant advantage, which we are obviously trying to make up for.”
