Cagliari is the third and final team promoted to Serie A.

In the final return match of the playoffs played at the San Nicola, the Sardinian team coached by Claudio Ranieri in fact beat Bari 1-0 with a goal in full recovery by Pavoletti (94′).

After the first leg match played in Sardinia had ended 1-1, the Pugliesi (on the strength of a better finish in the season) would have needed only another draw to complete the task.

In the midst of the recovery, when everything seemed ready for the biancorossa celebration, the visiting striker intervened in the split on a cross from the right, giving Cagliari the top spot.
