Wimbledon, Khachanov’s waiver makes Berrettini smile

Karen Khachanov announced his Wimbledon forfeit via a post on his Instagram account.

“Hello everyone, this is not an easy start for me to write. I have to inform you of my withdrawal from the next edition of the Championships. Due to an unfortunate injury sustained at the French Open (stress fracture and partial fracture of the sacrum), I will not be able to participate in Wimbledon for the second year in a row,” reads the Russian tennis player’s message.

However, Khachanov’s absence puts a smile on Matteo Berrettini’s face: in fact, the Italian player, taking advantage of the spot vacated by the Russian, will be among the seeded players at the London Slam. The presence of the Roman tennis player, however, is still in doubt, after his withdrawal from Queen’s and an abdominal injury that does not seem to be completely overcome yet.
