Good news comes directly from Edwin van der Sar’s social profiles: the former Ajax, Juventus, and Manchester United goalkeeper, who was struck down by a cerebral hemorrhage while on vacation in Split, Croatia, last July 7, has indeed left intensive care and wanted to personally dedicate a message to all colorio who had been worried about him.

“First of all, my wife Annemarie and I want to thank everyone who has been close to us with so many messages of support. I am happy to share with you the news of my exit from the ICU. However, I remain in the hospital to continue treatment, and I hope to return home next week and continue my journey toward recovery.”

Already in the last few days the news regarding Van der Sar left room for moderate optimism: the goalkeeper, as disclosed by Ajax, had been transported from Croatia to the Netherlands to be admitted to intensive care in his home country, making rapid progress compared to the first days, progress confirmed by the possibility of him leaving the intensive care unit.

Van der Sar, 52, had resigned a few weeks ago from the managerial roles he held at Ajax, a club where he grew up as a player, playing nine championships between 1990/91 and 1998/99 before moving to Juventus. With the Bianconeri he played two seasons, after which he defended the doors of Fulham and Manchester United. At 46, his last game, played with Noordwijk, the club with which he debuted at youth level before his Ajax adventure.
