Italvolley, Fefè De Giorgi charges the Azzurri.
De Giorgi’s words
Rio de Janeiro. And’ everything is ready in the Azzurri for tomorrow’s debut against the Czech Republic in the Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament – 6 pm.30 with live coverage on Sky Sport Max -; the Men’s National Team will therefore make its debut in one of the most iconic facilities of world volleyball and already the setting of important Azzurri successes (1990 historic first rainbow victory with De Giorgi on the court; 1995 first place in the World League with Giretto, current team manager, and Vigor Bovolenta on the team). Here Italy also won the last medal at the 2016 Olympic Games with Giannelli and his teammates stopped only by the hosts in the final act of a truly gripping and exciting tournament.
As mentioned, therefore, CT De Giorgi will be returning to the facility that thirty-three years ago saw him and his teammates win the first world championship for Italy. A plunge into the past then with many good memories: “Yesterday going back to the Maracanazinho è was a great emotion – he said – , even reliving some sensations such as going through the locker room è was something really nice, so many things went through my mind. I saw that unlike thirty-threeè years ago now there are seats so è probably the capacity is a little bit decreased (smiles, ed.). Of course if then someone at the time had told me that I would come back here after all this time as a world champion, but as a technical commissioner, I would not have believed it. So it was a great pleasure”.
Memories però necessarily make room for current events and a very important tournament of this season that is about to draw to a close: “We have this engagement ahead of us of which I think it is useless to emphasize the’importance since it qualifies for the Games. It’ a tournament a bit particular both because’ it comes at the end of a season full of commitments including a very demanding European and because’ we will play many games, almost all consecutive, which will represent seven finals as Giannelli has already had the opportunity to emphasize; each game will be sé and will have to be approached with great attention, concentration and intensity. We&eagrave; will need the whole team, all the guys becauseé the playing and recovery times will be fast”.
