Las Vegas, even Pirelli admits, “It will be unusual weekend”
Even tire makers admit that the weekend will be abnormal.
Formula 1 in Las Vegas, for the first Grand Prix hosted in the Nevada city since 1982. Compared to then, però it will be run in the second half of November and mostly at night. Two details that already before the arrival of the Circus created concerns about the possible poor grip of the tires. And meanwhile, even Pirelli has admitted that some cause for apprehension exists.
"The asphalt and air temperatures will be decidedly unusual for a race weekend,” admitted Mario Isola, Pirelli motorsport director.
They will resemble those found in the days when preseason testing was held in Europe. Then there are long straight runs in Las Vegas. And that will make it even more complex to warm up the tires in qualifying and maintain a proper temperature in the race".
Then there are other aspects, framed by Isola, that make the trip to Las Vegas even more of an unknown for Formula 1: "The aerodynamic load will be quite low, as in Baku or even Monza. Indeed, high top speeds are needed. The track will beà also low in rubber, as there are no Formula 1 side races scheduled. Plus; there will be areas with city pavement and others completely resurfaced. And this will beà an additional challenge".
