Jasmine Paolini, the fairy tale continues: è in the final in Dubai
Jasmine Paolini’s fairy tale does not stop at the Dubai WTA 1000. The Tuscan tennis player, in fact, beat in two sets (6-2 7-6) the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, number 22 in the world, after almost two hours of battle, thus centering her first final in a WTA 1000. With this victory the Italian player also gave herself her personal best ranking: from Monday she will be number 16 in the world rankings.
Paolini starts strong right away and gets the break in the fourth game (3-1). The Tuscan repeats in the eighth game with a double break, which also coincides with the set, closed in her favor 6-2. In the second partial, Paolini goes ahead twice by a break but gets a comeback from her opponent, who cancels a match point on 4-5 and goes up 6-5. Here Cirstea does not convert as many as 5 set points on serve and è is forced to the tie-break, where it proceeds point to point: on 5-6 Paolini cancels another set point to the Romanian, stringing three consecutive points that give her the victory and the final.
In the final Paolini will find Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya, number 40 in the WTA ranking, who surprisingly beat Poland’s world number 1 Iga Swiatek with a double 6-4. In case of success, the Italian could further touch up her best ranking, hoisting herself to the number 14 position in the world rankings.
