In the second round of the’ATP 250 on the Moroccan clay of Marrakech Matteo Berrettini, who dropped to world number 135, beat with a score of 6-4 4-6 6-3 the Spaniard Jaume Munar, number 73, and advances to the quarterfinals, where he finds Lorenzo Sonego, the tournament’s number 4 seed, for an all-Italian derby.
Berrettini saves three break points in the fourth game of the match, then at 3-3 è he breaks his opponent’s serve at the second opportunity, and shortly after manages to close out the first set.
History repeats itself exactly on the’1-1 of the second set but this time Matteo misses three 4-1 double break balls and then he loses his service game to zero in the sixth game, then surrendering another service game in the tenth game and thusì the match is lengthened.
Berrettini misses two more break points on 1-1 but on 3-3 he goes 0-40 on his opponent’s serve, misses the first two beak balls but the third è the good one and è the decisive one, because he then holds serve to zero and in the ninth game he makes the last break closing on the first match point after two hours and 20 minutes of play.
