An own goal puts Sassuolo back in trouble: Genoa exults at Marassi

Despite the fact that the goal of salvation has long since been achieved, Genoa continued to honor the championship at its best by winning 2-1 at home against Sassuolo and thus picking up its seventh useful result in the last eight matches played. For the neroverdi è however, it was a blow to their salvation ambitions, renewed after the success against Inter.

The match: after 7' Marassi rejoices for the goal signed by Morten Thorsby after a mix-up between Consigli and Matheus Henrique, but the referee cancels, after review in the Var Room, for a touch of hands during the action. Refreshed by the narrow escape from danger, Sassuolo went ahead on 31': De Winter stomped in the box against Laurienté, referee Mariani decided for a penalty after on-field review and Pinamonti converted.

Genoa came back with more spirit in the second half and in 56'equalized: a corner kicked by Martin, Thorsby extended toward the second post and found the intervention of Milan Badelj, who made it 1-1. Shaken by the conceded goal, Sassuolo staggers and concedes in the 63rd minute: Gudmundsson takes off at full speed and serves Ekuban, the latter crosses low to Retegui but before the Italian-Argentine can intervene è Kumbulla deflects it into his own goal for the 2-1 Genoa.

Ballardini plays all five substitutions after the own goal: out, between 67'and 87', just Kumbulla, Thorstvedt, Obiang, Erlic and Matheus Henrique, in Bajrami, Volpato, Racic, Mulattieri and Lipani. Nothing changes forò nothing until the triple whistle: è genoa to exult, in front of their fans, while Sassuolo will be forced to get the most out of the last two of the championship to still hope for salvation.
