It was a cordial and very emotional meeting that of the FISI delegation, hosted today at the Quirinale by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The President of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, the President of FISI, Flavio Roda, Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia took turns at the stage, before the awaited greeting of President Mattarella.
“Today è a day that will remain in our hearts and in the history of FISI – said President Roda -. For the Federation è the athlete the center of every interest, including budget. Everything we do è for them. And of course there is no lack of attention to young people, who represent the future. Ours è a complex, articulated federation, but one that è is able to present many top-level athletes. In the more than 100 years of our history we have been able to win 115 Olympic medals, 36 of which are gold’
.
“We are fortunate to practice our sports in the mountains, in a less contaminated environment than others – Federica Brignone added – and my hope è that we will be able to live in a moreù sustainable world, in the future”.
“We are proud to stand up for the highest values of our beautiful country,” said Sofia Goggia, “Sport è ambassador of essential values for the new generations”.
President Mattarella, who è was given a ski suit bearing his name and number 1, as well as a personalized pennant, said he “was particularly happy to host winter sports champions” and recalled all the previous speeches, highlighting the most significant passages. He showed his interest in all 15 disciplines of FISI and pledged his institutional presence at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
Then photos and handshakes also to the winter sports legends present at the’meeting: Gustav Thoeni, Manuela Di Centa, Marco Albarello, Armin Zoeggeler and Alberto Tomba.
The delegation included Secretary General Loretta Piroia the federal vice presidents Stefano Longo and Francesco Bettoni, federal advisor Verena Stuffer and some current technical directors such as Armin Zoeggeler, Gianluca Rulfi, Klaus Hoellrigl and Fabio Meraldi.
In attendance were 30 athletes representing all disciplines that are part of FISI: Amedeo Bagnis, Marta Bassino, Daniele Bagozza, Patrick Baumgartner, Emanuele Becchis, Maurizio Bormolini, Michele Boscacci, Federica Brignone, Simone Deromedis, Alba De Silvestro, Dominik Fischnaller, Tommaso Giacomel, Sofia Goggia, Valentina Greggio, Lorenzo Gritti, Evelyn Lanthaler, Valentina Margaglio, Michela Moioli, Marion Oberhofer, Simone Origone, Dominik Paris, Federico Pellegrino, Patrick Pigneter, Florian Schieder, Annika Sieff, Flora Tabanelli, Miro Tabanelli, Lisa Vittozzi, Andrea Voetter, and Dorothea Wierer.
