On his Wimbledon tournament debut Fabio Fognini annihilated Luca Van Assche with the result of 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 in just over two hours of play. The Italian tennis player played a virtually perfect match that allowed him to win at Wimbledon three years after the last time.
Fabio Fognini will face Norwegian Casper Ruud, currently world No. 8, in the second round. Ruud è coming off a victory over Australia's Alex Bolt.
The balance of previous meetings between Fognini and Ruud è clearly in favor of the Norwegian, who won all three matches played without ever conceding a set to the Italian. The last meeting between the two dates back to the Monte-Carlo tournament in 2021, where Ruud confirmed his superiority with another clear victory.
