Paris 2024, Luciano Darderi is looking forward to it
Luciano Darderi thinks big
Having archived his first experience in the main draw of the Wimbledon tournament with the defeat in the all-Italian derby against Lorenzo Musetti (a hard-fought match resolved only after five sets), Luciano Darderi is already thinking about the next big goal, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he will represent Italy.
Darderi will wear the blue in the men’s Five Circles tournament, as will Jannik Sinner, Matteo Arnaldi and Musetti himself: "I’m happy with how it went in the grass tournaments,” said the 2002-born tennis player at a press conference in Wimbledon. “Now it’s back to playing on clay: Hamburg, Umag and then the Olympic Games".
Winner of three Challengers and two ITF circuit tournaments between 2021 and June 2024 (the last success in Perugia, on June 16, in the final against Sumit Nagal), Darderi è literally exploded this season, winning his first ATP Tour tournament in Cordoba, Argentina and making his entry into the Top 50, climbing up to 34th place following his victory in Umbria.
The men’s tournament at the Olympic Games will be played, on the courts that usually host Roland Garros, from July 27 to Aug. 4. Holder of the Olympic title è German Alexander Zverev, who in the final of the men’s tournament in Tokyo 2020 (edition played in the summer of 2021 due to Covid) beat Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-1.
