Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic crushes Holger Rune and flies to the quarters
Novak Djokovic-Holger Rune 6-3 6-4 6-2
Novak Djokovic flies to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon after a no-history challenge against Holger Rune, world and seeded number 15. The Serbian champion, in fact, rifled a clear 3-0 victory over the Dane, defeated with a final score of 6-3 6-4 6-2 after just two hours of play.
A real show of strength by the world number two, who won the first twelve points of the match. Nole then missed the double break ball, but still closed the first partial 6-3. More hard-fought was the second set where the balance was broken in the seventh game when Djokovic scratched the break. Admirable Rune to have nullified six set points, but the seventh è was the good one: 6-4 Djokovic and two sets to zero.
In the third set, the 24-time Slam champion è returned to dominance: break in the opening, then confirmed (2-0); on 3-2 the Serb strung together another partial run of three consecutive games, filing the case on 6-2 final. In the quarterfinals Djokovic will face Australian Alex De Minaur, who got the better of Frenchman Arthur Fils in four sets.
"I am very happy, I think Holger – said Djokovic warmly, in the interview on 'Centre Court' – did not play his best. He lost the first 12 points, he felt the pressure and for me è everything was easier. But there were some very hard-fought games later in the second and third sets as well. I thank all the fans for staying here to admire my tennis".
