Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner wants to get even with Daniil Medvedev
In the last five direct confrontations, the South Tyrolean has always won
Here we go. Once again, it will be Sinner-Medvedev. This time there's a spot in the semifinals at Wimbledon up for grabs. The two know each other very well, considering that it will be their 12th ° direct confrontation. At the moment, the Russian è holds a slight advantage in terms of record with six wins and opposite the five of the current world No. 1.
The first face-off dates back to 2020 when, in the second round, Medvedev got the better of a very young Sinner in three sets (1-6, 6-1, 6-2). Five more victories followed for the Russian, who, at one point, seemed to be something of a tabù for the Blue. Then something è changed, exactly since the final of the Beijing ATP tournament (2023 edition).
On that occasion, Sinner got the better of the Russian (7-6, 7-6), breaking a streak of as many as six losses in a row. A fluke? Absolutely not. Sinner also beat him in the Vienna final that same year, in the semifinals at the ATP Finals in November, in the Australian Open final (first Slam title for the current world No. 1) and, the last direct confrontation between the two, in the semifinals at the Miami Masters 1000.
In fact, the world No. 1 has been beating Medvedev for as many as five straight matches in a row. Should he beat him again in today’s Wimbledon match, he would even the score with the Russian (6-6).
Medvedev needs to play a perfect match. He will surely think about the fact that he hasn't gotten the better of the Italian since the Miami tournament in 2023.
