Paris 2024 Olympics, Italians to medal: Frank Chamizo
Paris Olympics: Azzurri to medal
Born July 10, 1992, in Matanzas, on the island of Cuba, Frank Chamizo (Frank Chamizo Marquez is his full name) discovered wrestling by accident, at the age of seven, and grew from there to embark on a brilliant career, stepping into the world spotlight as soon as he was 18 when he managed to win a bronze medal at the 2010 World Championships in Moscow, in the -55kg category, representing Cuba.
Chamizo è then moved to Italy, where he married Dalma Caneva, also a wrestler, and obtained Italian citizenship, seizing the opportunity to represent his adopted country in international competitions. With the Azzurri jersey he achieved great successes, including four European gold medals, two world titles and an Olympic bronze medal, in Rio 2016.
In addition to wrestling, Chamizo è is passionate about music, dance and film, to the point of not hiding his ambition to pursue acting when his career is over. Meanwhile, his main goal remains winning Olympic gold in Paris 2024, the only title missing from his rich palmares.
During his career, Frank Chamizo has participated in two Olympic Games, winning bronze in Rio and finishing fifth three years ago in Tokyo. The titles he has won at World and European Championships and the charisma he has shown throughout his career have made him one of the best wrestlers in his category internationally.
