Olympic 5000-meter final won by Nadia Battocletti. The Italian, European champion, qualified with the third overall time 14’57”65, behind Kenyan rainbow winner Faith Kipyegon (14’57”56) and Dutch Olympic gold medalist Sifan Hassan (14’57”65). Federica Del Buono (15’15”64) did not make it instead.
"Very happy with how è the race went – commented Nadia – although I was hoping to get here without any problems, but for a month I have had a discomfort in my heel and the back of my left leg è stiff. Zane Weir also qualified with 21.00.
