Paris 2024 Olympics, Covid for Antonella Palmisano
The words of Antonella Palmisano
Italy finishes sixth in the march relay at the Paris Olympics. The team with Massimo Stano and Antonella Palmisano fought for a long time for the podium in the new marathon distance race, in provisional third place at the’last change, but in the final fraction the’azzurra exited the medal zone with just over six kilometers to go and suffered the overtaking of her opponents. But there's a reason, revealed at the end of the race.
“I contracted covid,” declares Antonella Palmisano, “and I was always monitored. I knew I was going into a lack of strength, but I felt better than in the individual race. We told each other to give my best, in the first part I even did well, then in the second part I paid the bill. Unfortunately, this Olympiad è went like this, but I know I gave it all”.
“In the first fraction I didn’t feel discomfort in my ankle that had caused me problems in the 20 kilometers,” commented Massimo Stano, “but I was really afraid and then I was losing meters in the corners, trying to get back into the straight. Then I told the medical staff, they told me to go easy and so I did. È also came out a blister on the’other foot, but I pushed hard”.
“I can’t recriminate anything, although instead of ITA on the bib it could have said lame – he jokes – but having finished è already a great thing”.
