The Azzurri were defeated by the United States in the 3°-4° place final of the Olympic tournament. The concluding 0-3 (23-25, 28-30, 24-26) thus condemned Ferdinando De Giorgi’s boys to fourth place in the standings, the second time in the history of the men’s national team after the 2008 Beijing edition.

Today Giannelli and his teammates sì struggled, but they ended up giving in the hot moments of the match and probably the failure to come back in the second set during which two set balls were missed, psychologically conditioned the Azzurri. There’è regret for the conclusion of the tournament especially for how it had started and how the tricolor lineup had performed in the first phase.
