US Open: Flavio Cobolli and Mattia Bellucci in second round, Lorenzo Sonego ko'debut

Flavio Cobolli and Mattia Bellucci's adventure at the US Open begins in the best possible way. The Tuscan player è imposed himself in four sets with the score of 6-1 4-6 6-4 6-4 over Australian James Duckworth, after just over two and a half hours of play, while the native of Busto Arsizio settled Swiss Stan Wawrinka in three sets (6-4 7-6 6-3), winning his first victory in a Major.

Nothing to do, however, for Lorenzo Sonego, who after his triumph in Winston-Salem è was forced to raise the white flag in his Flushing Meadows debut against host Tommy Paul, who è imposed himself with a score of 6-4 6-2 5-7 6-2.

In the first partial, the American player manages to snatch the serve already in the third game to zero and maintain the lead until the final 6-4. In the second set, the gap between the two grows and the American still escapes in the score by posting two consecutive breaks and also winning the second partial 6-2.

The third act also starts uphill for Sonego, who immediately loses his serve. However, Paul drops in intensity and the Turin native manages to recover the disadvantage and place the decisive extension in the twelfth game that allows him to take the match to the fourth set, where, forò, the inertia returns to the side of the American, who finds his tennis again and in a short time closes the games on 6-2.

In the second round of the U.S. Open, Flavio Cobolli will face Zizou Bergs of Belgium, while Mattia Bellucci will take on Christopher O'Connell of Australia. Paul, on the other hand, will face Max Purcell and the winner of the match could find world number one Jannik Sinner in a hypothetical round of 16.
