Chris Smalling open-hearted after farewell to Roma
Chris Smalling’s message to Roma fans
After five seasons è the time has come for goodbyes between Chris Smalling and Roma. The English defender, 35 years old next November 22, will play in Saudi Arabia, in Al-Fayha, but before moving from Serie A to the Saudi Pro League, he wanted to address a farewell message dedicated to the fans and the whole Giallorossi environment, starting with the trophy he won during his time at Roma, the 2021/2022 Conference League.
"May 25, 2022, What a magical night! Lifting a European trophy in an AS Roma jersey and receiving Man of the Match recognition from you,” Smalling wrote on Instagram. The word ‘pride’ is not enough to explain what I felt. The noise and passion conveyed by the fans that night was indescribable. I am convinced that there is no’other fan base in the world that can match that’energy".
"It’ has been an absolute privilege,” he added, “to experience that kind of passion and incitement week after week for the past 5 seasons. Upon our arrival in Rome in 2019, my family and I were welcomed with kindness and warmth. You immediately made me feel at home in Rome. With the birth of my son, the city willà forever hold a special place in my heart".
"But all good stories are destined to come to an end, and for me too è the time has come to take my leave. My love and admiration for AS Roma will remain forever. To the players with whom I shared locker room and field, to the coaches under whose orders I played, to all the staff who work behind the scenes and whose work often goes unnoticed, and to you fans, thank you very much: è it has been an absolute honor. Good luck for the rest of the season. Goodbye, Forza Roma" then concluded the defender.
