Dennis Praet faded, Davide Vagnati reveals the background
In the last days of the market, Torino tried hard to sign Dennis Praet but every attempt went in vain. Davide Vagnati, in a press conference, spilled the beans: “There is no regret, we tried. We wanted Dennis and he wanted to come, when you try in every way and it was not a problem of formula, economic or any kind: it was a legitimate choice of Leicester, they didn’t let him out. We took note of that and that’s fine. We are still satisfied, but I like to have balance. The answers come from the field, that’s where you see the answers about the work done. There will be a way to tell if the satisfaction is 360 degrees.”
“It seemed appropriate to give a report and be available for questions. With the market over, I wanted to be clear or at least answer questions. I thank Zaza, who left the club and for what he did, he was a help two seasons ago. The same wish goes for Izzo and Verdi, they went to Monza and Verona on loan respectively.”
The technical director of the Granata then spoke about Radonjic: “The idea was born a couple of months before getting him, he is a strong player who has thrown away his talent a bit. He has all the characteristics to be an important player, if he hasn’t shown that it’s because he has made a few lapses. He cut a lot of money off his salary, he did not have positive references but we decided to take him together with the coach. From Specchia to Moretti to the other collaborators we are convinced he can give us so much.”
“Brekalo wanted to come back and did everything, it was not correct to take him back. He did well, but last year we wanted to keep him: it’s not that we didn’t want to invest, but I want players who want to be at Toro. There is a project that started with a great coach and we are moving forward on this line. Of the eight players who have arrived, which then number 10 with Ricci and Pellegri, three are on loan with a manageable right of redemption. Toro can, in case they want it and the player wants it, we can exercise it. The strategy has changed a little bit. I am very self-critical, I would have liked Praet for what he could have given. There are still 10 games, either you get someone who comes in and is ready like Praet, or you make different assessments and that’s what we did.”
“This has to be our direction, invest in guys with enthusiasm and who grow with us. Soccer goes in this direction, follow talented players that we follow live and then, after skimming, take the right players for the budget and for the project. That’s what we are trying to do. Ilkhan is incredibly talented, he’s a 2004 and he has to work: that’s normal, but he has the right mentality to take away and make us take away satisfaction. He has great room for improvement.”
“We tried to understand with Mandragora and Juve if he could stay at Toro, he made a legitimate choice to change. That’s fine, let’s move on and that was his choice. For Pjaca it was a technical choice. Pobega we did not have redemption and Milan did not even want to talk about a definitive purchase, we tried,” Vagnati concluded.
