Beijing, Jasmine Paolini redeems herself in doubles: she is in the quarters with Sara Errani
Masters 1000 Beijing: Sara Errani/Jasmine Paolini- Aldila Sutjadi/Leylah Fernandez 7-6 6-2
After being eliminated in the singles draw at the hands of Magda Linette, Jasmine Paolini redeemed herself in a big way in the doubles paired with Sara Errani. The two Italians prevailed over Indonesia's Aldila Sutjadi and Canada's Leylah Fernandez with a score of 7-6 6-2, lifting the pass for the quarterfinals of the Beijing Masters 1000.
The match starts immediately uphill for the two Italian players, who lose serve in the third game. However, the lead is short-lived, as Errani and Paolini place the counterbreak three games later. Sutjadi and Fernandez, however, manage to stay within the match and in the 11th game snatch the serve from their rivals again, earning the chance to serve for the first set. The winners of the Olympic gold medal in Paris 2024 did not take it lying down and first forced the tie-break then won the first partial set with a score of 7-4.
In the second set, Errani and Paolini decide to shake up the match until the opening bars thanks to a five-games-to-one lead in the first six games. Strengthened by the large lead, it becomes just a formality to close the games on 6-2.
In the next round the two blue players will face the pair formed by Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia and Germany’s Laura Siegemund.
