Jasmine Paolini clears first hurdle in Wuhan
Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16 at Wuhan Open
Debut with a smile for Jasmine Paolini at the Wuhan Open: the athlete from Versilia, who started from the second round thanks to the bye assigned to the top seeds of this WTA 1000, defeated in two sets (6-4, 6-3) China's Yuan Yue, at the end of a match in which the Olympic doubles champion was able to react to a couple of difficult moments, emerging in the decisive moments.
Ahead by two breaks in the first set, on the score of 4-1, Paolini suffered the overbearing comeback of Yuan, who reached her on 4-4 and served to go ahead: the reaction of pride è fierce, so much so that just in the ninth game the tennis player number 6 in the world snatched the service from her opponent and then went on to win 6-4.
In the second set jasmine Paolini goes under 2-1 and is forced to cancel two break points to avoid going under by two games: from there, however, the road goes downhill and with a partial of five games to one comes the success and the consequent qualification to the round of 16.
Waiting for Paolini is now Erika Andreeva, who defeated her younger sister Mirra 6-3, 6-1 in the second round in a "fratricidal" clash. For the youngest of the Andreevas it will be the third straight clash against Jasmine Paolini, who won the previous two in Les Franqueses del Valles (in 2022, in the semifinals) and in Lyon (in 2023, in the round of 16).
