French home favorite Ugo Humbert, world number 18, beat Russian Karen Khachanov, number 21, in a comeback with a score of 6-7 6-4 6-3 after more than 2 hours and 45 minutes of play and joins Alexander Zverev in the final of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000.
First set in which Humbert immediately saves a break point in the first game, suffers it on 2-2 but immediately returns it. Same at 4-4: break in Khachanov’s favor and counter break, with the Russian, winner of this tournament in 2018, then winning a hard-fought tie-break 8-6 on the second set point.
Three breaks between the second and third sets and they are all in favor of Humbert, who after missing three consecutive break points on 1-1 and saving one immediately after, on 2-2 breaks Khachanov’s service and from that moment on he does not concede a chance to the Russian, first extending the match and then, in the decisive set, closing with four consecutive games from 2-3 to 6-3.
