Atalanta blitz in Naples: 3-0 Nerazzurri at home of the leader
A result that could have a huge bearing on the championship.
Atalanta victorious in Naples, with the entire Serie A possibly suddenly changing face. The orobici won 3-0 at the Maradona Stadium with two goals by Ademola Lookman, both propelled by Charles De Ketelaere, and the signature of Mateo Retegui. This brings the Nerazzurri to five wins in a row in the league, interrupting a similar streak by the leader (who even had not lost since the first day). And now the standings say -3 points from the top.
Gian Piero Gasperini from the first minute chooses the "light" attack, but on the field it does not show. After an early chance for Lukaku (header that doesn't scare Carnesecchi), Atalanta's offensive tandem builds the lead as early as 10'minute: De Ketelaere fishes Lookman, who with a left-footed first-intention beats Meret. Napoli reacts, but è also unlucky: immediate post by McTominay after the conceded goal. Then Carnesecchi anticipates Anguissa.
Atalanta però did not just manage the lead: Pasalic could double, but missed aim. Entirely different outcome for the ball that on 31'the usual De Ketelaere gives to a Lookman in a day of grace, as evidenced by his dribbling over Di Lorenzo and the right-footed shot that is worth the Nerazzurri double. Before halftime only Lukaku tries to reopen the game, but on the other side two untaken chances by De Ketelaere and Pasalic are also important.
The resumption seemed to present a different Napoli on the field, with Kvaratskhelia and Politano already engaging Carnesecchi in the first five minutes. But it lasts little: è rather Atalanta to seek the tris. Dangerous Zappacosta and Ederson, goal annulled to Kolasinac for offside. Rrahmani and Buongiorno try to save the Parthenopean afternoon, but at 92' the substitute Retegui finally closes the accounts with a winning volley on an assist from Bellanova.
