The news of Roger Federer’s retirement, which came via a long letter circulated by the Swiss champion on his Instgram account, shocked the tennis world, and the reactions of the greatest players were not long in coming. Among them, Stan Wawrinka, his great friend, merely commented with emojis: two crying faces, two hearts, and two emoticons of the goat, “Goat” in English signifying Greatest of all time. Simple smilies, then, but worth more than a thousand words.

In his statement, Roger, wanted to thank his opponents, “Thank you also to my opponents. I was lucky enough to play some epic matches that I will never forget. We fought fairly, with passion and with intensity, and I always gave my all to respect the history of this game. I feel really grateful. We always pushed each other, and together we took tennis to new levels.” In this category Stan certainly holds a special place in the Swiss’s heart. The two together also won a Davis Cup in 2014.
