Reduced from eight consecutive defeats, two of them in overtime and the last one, at PalaVerde against Treviso, by only two points, Varese Basketball has no more alternatives to victory, having slipped into the relegation zone. The red-and-whites will face Scafati on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in front of their home crowd, and their coach, Giannis Kastritis, has clear ideas on how they can raise their heads again.

“From the first moment I arrived in Varese – explained the Greek coach -, our approach has been the same every week, because we want to play every possession, every game, as if it were a final. That then the word final in this case is not correct because after this one on Sunday against Scafati we will have other games to play. Obviously, from the moment we are approaching the end of the championship, everything matters even more, especially if you play against a team like the one from Campania that is fighting for the same goals as us”.

“Everything is more important, every possession counts – added Kastritis -, and for that we have to be very close to a perfect performance, at least on the things we can control directly, such as defensive effort, fighting spirit and our unity as a team. All these little things can make the difference in being able to play a game at the highest level, and I am confident that this will happen because the boys have been training very well this week”.

“Scafati will also play like it was a final and it is not important that they lost a player like Rob Gray during the week; after all, Treviso also played against us last week without Harrison. The most important thing right now is to show that you want victory and that you want to fight for it. And we will be ready to fight” concluded the Varese coach.
