The funeral of the Pope will disrupt the weekend sports schedule: all soccer leagues and other sporting events will be suspended on the occasion of the Pontiff’s funeral, scheduled for Saturday, April 26. All Serie A matches scheduled on that day will therefore be postponed: these are Como-Genoa, Lazio-Parma and Inter-Roma.

Inter-Roma could slip to Sunday, or brought forward on Friday: the Nerazzurri on Wednesday, April 30 will face Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal. The Olimpico match between Lazio and Parma is expected to be postponed until next Monday, less problems for the postponement of Como-Genoa. The decision to postpone the matches is sparking quite a bit of controversy among fans on social media.

In Serie B, the two matches scheduled for Saturday (Sudtirol-Juve Stabia and Catanzaro-Palermo) will be postponed, and so will the whole of the last day of the regular season of the Serie C round.
