After his three-set win over Arthur Rinderknech in his debut at Roland Garros, Jannik Sinner in a press conference also spoke about Giulio Ciccone, who was forced to withdraw from the Giro d’Italia after the fatal crash in the 14th stage.

“I heard from Giulio and he is very sorry – admitted the world number one – He is a very similar guy to me and Antonio Giovinazzi. We give a lot of importance to the family and the people around us, because they know how many sacrifices we make to be at this level”.

“For him, the Giro d’Italia is like Wimbledon for us tennis players– added the South Tyrolean star – Finishing it like this broke his heart. We are close friends and try to support each other. I am sorry I cannot be there with him”.

Sinner has qualified for the second round of the Paris Slam where he will face Frenchman Richard Gasquet: “Obviously it will be a very special match. He has given so much to tennis, and I am so happy to be able to share the court with him. I also know that you will be rooting for him, but that is absolutely normal”.
