The European adventure of the National women’s soccer team begins. Today, in Sion (whistle d’start at 18:00), Italy faces Belgium, a match valid for the first day of group B that also includes Portugal and Spain, the latter one of the favorites for the final victory.

Italy is eager to do well at the European Championships. After narrowly missing out on the Nations League Final Four, the Azzurri are aiming to pass the group stage, the first goal of this expedition to Swiss soil. Weighing, among the precedents, the defeat suffered at the 2022 European Championships (1-0 to Belgium).

To do so, it is essential to get off to the best possible start and, therefore, beat Belgium, a team that is anything but affordable. Chief coach Soncin seems intent on lining up with a 4-3-3, the most popular form in the Azzurri.

In front of Giuliani, space for Boattin, Salvai, Linari and Di Guglielmo. In midfield, Severini, Giugliano and Caruso will act. In attack, trident formed by Bonansea, Girelli and Cantore. On the other side, as many as five players who play in the Italian league, namely striker Wullaert and midfielder Detruyer (both from Inter) and Sassuolo trio Missipo, Dhont and Philtjens. “In attack we do not need many chances to find the net. The key will be to stay compact and wait patiently for our moment” the words of Wullaert herself to the Uefa website.
