Giro d'Italia Women: Longo Borghini’s feat at Monte Nerone, stage goes to Gigante

Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance – Soudal Team) won the seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, which started in Fermignano and finished in Monte Nerone and was 150 km long, but the feat of the day belonged to Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ), who finished in second place.
The defending champion, who had a 16-second disadvantage to Swiss Marlen Reusser in the overall standings, turned in a sensational race, trimming an impressive 32 seconds off Reusser in the queen stage of the women’s pink race.
Thanks to her second place, the 33-year-old from Piedmont takes the pink jersey, becoming the new leader of the classification. Longo Borghini has a lead of 22 seconds over Marlen Reusser and one minute and 11 seconds over Sarah Gigante.
Sunday’s appointment with the’last stage: the Forlì-Imola, 134 kilometers long and with the challenging climb of Cima Gallisterna and the climb of Mazzolano with the passes and final finish inside the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari.
