Hopman Cup final: Italy re-ups Canada, Flavio Cobolli folds Felix Auger-Aliassime

After more than two hours of battle Flavio Cobolli, world number 19, won at the Fiera del Levante in Bari the men’s singles match of the Hopman Cup final between Italy and Canada beating Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 28, with a score of 6-7 7-5 10-8 bringing the Azzurri back into a tie after Lucia Bronzetti’s loss to Bianca Andreescu.
Cobolli started well going 3-0 with a break but was caught up at 3-3. At 4-4 it was Auger-Aliassime who stretched but could not close out the set with her service game at hand. In the tie-break the Canadian goes to 5-2, Flavio recovers at 5-5 and has two set points at 6-5 and 7-6, he misses them and instead Auger-Aliassime takes advantage of his by winning 9-7.
In the second set the North American goes up 4-1 with a break made in the fourth game, but gets caught up at 4-4 and at 5-5 suffers the break that then allows Cobolli in the next game to forfeit the partial by holding serve to zero.
Super tie-break: Flavio from 4-1 is overtaken on 4-6, on 7-5 for Auger-Aliassime it is he who makes three points in a row. On 8-8 the Italian won the point on the Canadian’s serve and soon after closed the match by winning the super tie-break 10-8. The mixed doubles will decide everything with, on one side, Bronzetti and Cobolli and on the other side Andreescu and Auger-Aliassime.
