In recent days on social media, several have criticized Jannik Sinner’s decision to forfeit the Toronto Masters 1000, scheduled from July 27 to August 7. Interviewed by Repubblica, Paolo Bertolucci bluntly attacked the critics.

“Sinner is adopting a correct and agreeable strategy. Whoever does not understand this and is worried because he loses 200 points in the rankings means that he does not know the rules of tennis. It is about programming, it should be modified according to the ranking and goals”.

Bertolucci then elaborated: “Now he absolutely cannot afford not to be at the top for the US Open, it is normal and also logical that after Wimbledon he took a week off to relax, now he will have ten days of high-level training and then he will go to Cincinnati”.

Balance is key and Bertolucci knows this well: “You can&#8220t push hard every week at every tournament, it doesn&#8217t exist. The goals for a player like Sinner are Slams and that&#8217s it. Successes in the Masters 1000 are to be taken with great pleasure, but these are now almost training tournaments’training”.
