Interviewed by Repubblica, Thomas Ceccon spoke about the decision to train in Australia: “I needed to disconnect, I wanted to empty my head. Everything seemed lighter. Me going to bed at 6 a.m., fighting with the night. In Australia I was already asleep at 10 p.m., surfing at dawn. I was always in the water but with another spirit, there&#8217s no comparison”.

The champion then spoke about Jannik Sinner, a reference not only for tennis players but for all sportsmen in general: “I am a fan of his. Tennis gives you constant chances for revenge. In swimming, on the other hand, everything is played out in seconds”.

Next Ceccon raised a criticism, however: “The earnings between tennis and swimming are incomparable: Wimbledon is worth millions, we if it goes well take home $15’000. We are sharks but we remain small fish, it also happens that we get confused”.

In closing Thomas Ceccon showed his most sensitive side: “My first relationship ended badly, it hurt me and I asked a psychologist for help. It was the right choice, I talk about it without shame even though many men are afraid of looking fragile. Swimming helped me vent and maybe even heal”.
