Lorenzo Musetti has lifted a weight off his shoulders

After a period to forget, which began with an injury in the semifinals at Roland Garros and continued with a first-round defeat at Wimbledon and a knockout in the first round on cement in Washington, Lorenzo Musetti finally lifted a weight off his shoulders, beating James Duckworth in the second round of the Toronto Masters 1000.

Musetti, who in Canada has the number 3 seed and, therefore, was able to skip the first round, won the first game fraction not without difficulty, even defusing two break points that could have taken the set to the tie-break, before winning the second set with ease and closing the match in 81 minutes: 7-5, 6-1 the final score.

Musetti’s last victory on the circuit dated back to June 3, when in the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros the’current number 10 ATP had defeated Frances Tiafoe in four sets. Since then first physical problems and then some’ difficulty readjusting to different surfaces had prevented him from rejoicing in a success.

In the third round of the Toronto Masters 1000, Lorenzo Musetti will face Alex Michelsen of the United States, ranked No. 34 and the tournament&#8217s No. 26 seed.The latter earned his qualification by defeating Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera (No. 143 ATP) 7-6(7), 6-3, in just under two hours of play overall.
