Zverev misses yet another chance at Toronto Masters 1000

The No. 1 seed in the men’s draw at the Toronto Masters 1000 falls. Zverev, the big favorite to win the tournament (also considering the’absence of Sinner and Alcaraz), stops in the semifinals, beaten by Khachanov.
The Russian won in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 7-6 the partials), at the end of a match in which the German failed to maintain a high quality of play, committing many errors.
“In general, I regret that I was not able to feel comfortable on the court, I did not play my best tennis. The first set was terrible. However, I have to move on. I go to Cincinnati to try to do my best”, his post-match words reported by MundoDeportivo.
So fades, for Zverev, the chance to win the first final of the season in a Masters 1000 but, above all, the’opportunity to recover the right confidence in his means. Instead, Khachanov smiles. The 29-year-old Russian tennis player reaches his second career Masters 1000 final after the one in 2018 when he played (and won) the final of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000. An unexpected comeback that confirms how Khachanov is having a truly perfect tournament up to this point.
